The purpose of the TOT is to ensure sustainability of the project even after the lapse of the funding period. The trainees are the climate change champions of the environment who are drawn from each sublocation in the constituency. They were taken through the entire process from preparing cuttings through to harvesting. Key points included; selection of viable cutting, nursery establishment, land preparation and setting of poles, transplanting, training of the seedlings as well as farm care till maturity. They also learned about the varieties available in Kenya as well as the health benefits.
Starting from May, the trainees will be training the community on Dragon Fruit farming during organized capacity building session at different regions of the constituency. The purpose is to ensure that as many people as possible in the region learn about this wonder crop and how it can change their lives economically as well as it environmental benefits.
The trainers will be provided with dragon fruit cutting for the establishment of backyard centres. Upon maturity, these backyard centres will become the propagation sites for each sublocation.
Training of Trainers on Dragon Fruit Farming 18th & 19th of April 2024

A training of 32 TOTs from Mbeere North took place on the 18th and 19th of April 2024 at G8 Hotel and Fresh Farm Orchard Muraru respectively. The training was funded by the Global Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change – GMACC through HSF Namibia Office. From research, dragon fruit farming thrives in arid and semi-arid areas which is where Mbeere North falls.”.
